GSX 2019: Everything You Need to Know About Global Security Exchange

Global Security Exchange (GSX) will be held in Chicago on Sept. 8-12 at McCormick Place, the largest convention center in North America (check out what goes into securing the expo center, here).

ASIS Int’l has assembled educational programming that offers more than 300 sessions, organized into 17 subject-matter tracks. The GSX session lineup is billed as addressing a wide variety of topics vital to today’s security professional, delivered in immersive formats like small group workshops, simulations, deep dives and more.

GSX Education Sessions

ASIS Int’l has engaged more than 220 speakers from diverse professional backgrounds to deliver the peer-driven education program.

New to GSX this year are “Game Changer” sessions, which ASIS Int’l says will offer valuable insights and information on technologies that are rapidly changing today’s paradigm for security professionals.

The GSX 2019 Game Changer lineup consists of five thought-provoking sessions, titled, “The Ever-Changing Drone Landscape: What You Need to Know,” “Accelerating Digital Transformation: Insights and Applications,” “The Current and Changing Cannabis Landscape: An Industry Overview,” “Using High Beam Leadership to Navigate Disruption and Change” and “Finding Chinks in the Armor: Getting More Value from Your Penetration Testing.” Learn more about each session, here.

From Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel to CSOs and CISOs, the presenters cross the range of industries and responsibilities related to security.

GSX Keynotes

The event’s keynote lineup includes presentations from leading authorities with experience and expertise in international security, politics, homeland security, cybersecurity and corporate security.

Here is a glance at the speakers:

Sept. 9: Ian Bremmer, geopolitical expert and author, kicks off the keynote lineup with a discussion centered around navigating the current geopolitical landscape as it pertains to security risks and hotspots, with insights into global trends, politics and economics around the world — both in emerging markets and on the political front lines.

Sept. 10: During the general session Steve Demetriou, chair and CEO, and Joe Olivarez, vice president, global security, of Jacobs — a multinational engineering company with more than 77,000 employees around the world — will address the need to think differently about the future to deliver bold solutions for changing times.

Sept. 11: U.S. Marine Corps General (Ret.) John F. Kelly will discuss the evolving geopolitical landscape around the world as well as provide insights on the trends, risks and potential rewards amid the “hot spots” around the globe.

Sept. 12: Tarah Wheeler, a cybersecurity policy fellow at New America, will discuss “Protecting Assets in the Age of Cybersecurity Leaks and Scandals: How to Plan When Risk Is a Moving Target.” Following her address Wheeler will take part in a Q&A session with Brigadier General Stefanie Horvath, current leader of enterprise service delivery for the state of Minnesota.

GSX Exhibit Hall

Among the more the 500 companies exhibiting at the show, the exhibit hall will also contain the following features:

X Learning Stages: ASIS describes X Learning as a series of experiential sessions designed to actively shape the future of the security professional, offering cutting edge solutions and contextual understanding of frontier tech. Two stages are located right on the show floor to encourage discussion among attendees.

D3 Learning Theater: Attendees can get an up-close look at the latest unmanned aircraft platforms, counter UAS systems and ground-based robots.

Startup Sector: The GSX Startup Sector is a new area that highlights new companies with emerging technologies.

Pitch Competition: The GSX Pitch Competition is an event that brings together a group of entrepreneurs, investors and industry leaders to watch early-stage startups pitch their ventures. Each company is given time to pitch, followed by Q&A and feedback with established investors and top CSOs.

Networking Events

GSX 2019 will feature of number events that will give attendees the chance to mix and mingle. Here’s a glance at the main networking events scheduled for this year’s conference:

Opening Night Celebration: Chicago on the Silver Screen — Sept. 8, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Revel Motor Row. A movie-themed night out featuring nods to “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “The Blues Brothers,” and “Chicago,” with food, beverages, and entertainment. This event is open to all attendees and exhibitors. Tickets required; included with All-Access Pass or purchase online.

Networking Lunch — Sept. 9, 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Attendees can network and continue conversations over lunch while meeting new friends. Tickets required; included with All-Access Pass.

Awards Reception featuring the Outstanding Security Performance Awards & Karen Marquez Honors —Sept. 9, 4:00 – 6:00 pm. ASIS chapter members will be honored. In addition, the reception will feature the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs), which recognize and reward companies and individuals across the security sector. They are designed to be both independent and inclusive, providing an opportunity for outstanding performers to be recognized and their success celebrated. ASIS Happy Hour — Sept. 10, 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Enjoy complimentary drinks on the show floor as you discuss the events of the day. Open to all.

Women in Security and Young Professionals Happy Hour — Sept. 10,  5:30 – 7:00 pm. Join the ASIS Women in Security Council and Young Professionals Council from across the security industry for this informal networking reception.

President’s Reception: Fight for Your Right to Party! — Sept. 11 | 7:00 – 10:00 pm at Wintrust Arena. An 80s themed night featuring live entertainment, retro video games, food, drinks and networking. Eighties attire is encouraged. This event is open to all attendees and exhibitors. Tickets required; included with All-Access Pass or purchase online.
