LAS VEGAS — To get a firm handle on the latest developments in video surveillance, what could be better than picking the brain of the leading video management system provider Milestone Systems’ chief technology officer?

That’s just was Security Sales & Integration did, retreating to the secluded upper deck of the company’s large and packed exhibit booth during ISC West for a one-to-one conversation between SSI Editor-in-Chief Scott Goldfine and Milestone CTO Bjorn Skou Eilertsen.

Having spent more than six years with Milestone (and almost eight at Microsoft before that), Eilertsen says the company is currently transitioning into a community-focused business and his current role is to lead the technology and product groups through this transition to meet the future needs of the community.

Founded in 1998, Milestone says it is the world’s No. 1 VMS provider, with 750 associates and more than 10,000 technology partners (resellers and integrators). Boasting in excess of 150,000 installations worldwide, in 2014 the company was acquired by Canon where it remains a standalone business.

In the video above, the conversation centers on Milestone’s Cloud strategy, metadata (deep learning/AI) and cybersecurity. Deeper discourse includes how these areas can help security integrators’ end-user clients be more secure, efficient and compliant.

Eilertsen also speaks to where he sees artificial intelligence taking security in the near future from video surveillance and integration perspectives.
