HAWTHORNE, Calif.—Amazon-owned home security device maker Ring is bringing 24/7 recording and four new subscription features to its lineup of home security cameras as the company rebrands its subscription plans from Ring Protect to Ring Home.

According to Ring, one of its most highly requested features has been 24/7 recording, and it is now included in the Ring Home Premium plan. Eligible wired cameras will be able to continuously record and capture activity even outside of motion zones.

Ring Adds More User-Friendly Features to its Services

The company’s new offerings also include new Video Preview Alerts designed to show users what triggered a camera’s detection and alert without having to open the Ring app on their device. This feature builds on Rich Notifications, which was launched in 2020 to give users a better sense of the motion that triggered an alert. Now, users will get a short video clip directly in their system push notifications. Users can then engage more deeply with Two-Way Talk or Live View.

Video Preview Alerts now deliver a short video clip directly in your Ring push notification, letting you preview the motion activity and easily decide what to do, from nothing to engaging more deeply with Two-Way Talk or Live View. This is available in Ring Home Basic, Standard and Premium plans.

The company is also extending the amount of time people can watch a Live View, which is currently 10 minutes. Extended Live View, which is included in Ring Home Standard, allows users to watch a camera feed for up to 30 minutes. Ring Home Premium users with cameras with 24/7 Recording enabled can watch the feed for even longer.

Another new feature is Doorbell Calls, which essentially turns a video doorbell ring into a video call to the user’s phone instead of a push notification. Users can then answer the call and speak directly to the visitor through Live View. This is available in the home standard and premium plan options.

These five new features will begin rolling out this month and will be available worldwide through its home plans on Nov. 4, the company says. The plans are priced the same as Ring Protect.

Users can add services like Virtual Security Guard or Alarm Professional Monitoring to its standard or home premium plans.
