TYSONS, Va. — Alarm.com (Nasdaq: ALRM) announces it has expanded its lineup of smart home security solutions with a next-generation video doorbell.

Available now, the Alarm.com video doorbell features advanced video analytics that quickly and accurately detect outside visitors and automatically trigger mobile notifications, according to the company.

To help reduce health risks, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alarm.com says it offers the industry’s first touch-free doorbell capability, eliminating the need for a person to physically press a doorbell button so that the chime rings.

Adding the device to the Alarm.com ecosystem gives security providers greater choice in video doorbell solutions that cater to the specific needs of new and existing customers, the company says.

Rather than using motion detection that is common to other doorbell cameras, the new Alarm.com video doorbell uses edge computing and the company’s proprietary AI-driven video analytics engine to rapidly detect people approaching the front door.

The technology is said to prevent alerts from being generated for non-human objects such as passing vehicles, swaying branches and more to reduce subscriber interruptions.

When a person is detected, the video doorbell immediately activates the existing chime in the home, sends a mobile alert to the homeowner and starts recording a video clip. It also can trigger other connected device routines — such as lights  — through userdefined rules.

Additional features of the Alarm.com video doorbell include:

  • 150° vertical field of view that gives a full head-to-toe image of the doorway and clear look at packages left on the doorstep
  • Analytics-powered touchless ring capability
  • Live video and 2-way audio allow communication with visitors via a mobile device
  • Onboard heater for low temperature operation
  • Full HD resolution, HDR and infrared night vision

“Our newest doorbell brings unique innovation to this category,” says Alarm.com Chief Product Officer Dan Kerzner. “The Alarm.com video doorbell is equipped with our advanced video analytics, which uses rapid person detection to provide quick, accurate alerts. With a sleek design as part of our Design Studio Series and exclusive features, including the industry’s first touchless doorbell option, the Alarm.com video doorbell delivers an excellent subscriber experience and helps our partners meet the smart home security needs of their customers.”

The solution uses the same setup options (AP or WPS mode) as Alarm.com video cameras. Technicians can take advantage of several options when adding the device to customer accounts, including pre-configuration and delivery or do-it-together installs, according to the company.

Authorized Alarm.com security providers can visit the Partner Portal to order the Alarm.com video doorbell (ADC-VDB770) and access marketing, installation and support resources.
