GSX 2019 is being held Sept. 8-12 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Ahead of this year’s show, SSI reached out to Tim Baker, Honeywell Building Technologies, director of marketing, commercial security, to find out what the company will be showcasing at GSX.
What is the top product or offering you are showing off at GSX 2019, and what makes it unique or special from both security integrator and user perspectives?
Honeywell will showcase its newest suite of video cameras that help strengthen building safety and security through advanced analytics and secure channel encryption. The Honeywell 30 Series IP cameras are designed for use as part of video systems that comply with NDAA Section 889.
The new 30 Series IP cameras are well suited for SMB, entry-level enterprise, and critical applications where compliance is essential, such as government, utilities, premium commercial, campuses and retail. With the new cameras, end users can also benefit from lower total cost of ownership and lower risk as well as improved picture quality without increased storage needs.
What other products or offerings would you like to highlight, and what are some of qualities that differentiate them in the marketplace?
OmniAssure Touch, a range of access control readers that provide security against credential cloning and reader tampering, increase operator productivity when deploying mobile credentials, and are interoperable with a range of credential technologies and panel communication protocols. The passive intent access control readers help people get into an area faster – just with the touch of a finger – no swiping of a card or a phone is necessary.
Honeywell MAXPRO solution, powered by Intel Vision Products, allows customers to process and analyze visual data in near real time to make faster decisions, drive faster time to results and help ensure secure buildings, campus environments and banking institutions. By combining Intel’s highly engineered hardware and machine learning software into Honeywell’s MAXPRO connected security platform, customers can benefit from solutions that help resolve or altogether prevent security situations.
Pro-Watch 4.5, the latest iteration of this flagship connected security platform for enterprise and critical infrastructure markets, helps users increase productivity and reduce costs. Pro-Watch 4.5 meets the latest industry compliance requirements, reduces total cost of ownership and increases operator productivity with improved flexibility and scalability from single site to global deployment.
What else is new or noteworthy about the company as the end of 2019 draws near?
Honeywell is in the business of protection – from the buildings to the data and people within. Honeywell is sharply focused on product development, with an emphasis on advanced software. We have a strong new product pipeline this year – more than two times the number of products that we’ve released in the past several years.
With the release of the 30 Series IP Cameras, we are providing advanced secure channel encryption that guards against unauthorized access and unsanctioned distribution of data and video to help end users seamlessly integrate security into any business. The 30 Series cameras offer HTTPS video stream encryption and integration with MAXPRO Network Video Recorders which gives us the ability to provide TLS1.2 level security from edge to client across our video range. They also follow Honeywell cybersecurity standards and security-by-default design; and are PCI-DSS compliant. They support the Honeywell IPC Tool.
Earlier this year, Honeywell became one of the first security solutions companies to integrate Intel Vision Products into its portfolio. By combining Intel’s highly engineered hardware and machine learning software into Honeywell’s MAXPRO connected security platform, customers can benefit from solutions that help resolve or altogether prevent security situations. As Honeywell continues to develop and improve its suite of security solutions for the future, AI will play an important role in building a connected system.
By year’s end, we’ll also launch MAXPRO Intrusion, our new intrusion platform designed as part of the MAXPRO Cloud family making it a cloud connected solution. The MAXPRO product portfolio can provide real-time access control, video surveillance and instruction detection can connect users to their buildings via any mobile device to make informed business decisions.
What is your company’s overall value proposition to installing security dealers/integrators? Why should they partner with your company?
Safety and security is one of the most important aspects of a connected building. Our objective is to equip customers with integrated security systems that provide the earliest detection, enable the fastest response, centralize decision making, and manage it all from anywhere.
Honeywell is committed to working with professional security and safety dealers and end users to provide quality solutions as their preferences evolves.
We also recognize that security is a top concern for our customers. Cybersecurity and quality are areas where Honeywell invests an enormous amount of time and effort. We work with customers to understand their concerns and implement cybersecurity-by-design best practices to ensure our products integrate securely into their environments.
Looking ahead at 2020, what do you see as some of the top opportunities in the marketplace? What about challenges?
In the near term, Honeywell is particularly focusing on machine learning-based analytics. This is an exploding market, and we are pursuing both in-house offerings as well as building relationships with leading third-party vendors. Machine learning allows end users to go beyond monitoring activity on a surface level to really understand the scene – from who exactly is in the area to what they might be doing. As more data is processed over time, machine learning can help deliver a more accurate assessment of potential threats when they occur.

Honeywell is reinvesting in its video portfolio, both in hardware and software innovation, as well as partnering with the top experts in the IT and education industries to stay ahead of customer demand. Honeywell is focused on developing integrated security systems that provide the earliest detection, enable the fastest response, centralize decision making, and allow customers to manage it all from anywhere.
Last year we implemented a program to bring additional ranges to the market which will enable federal agencies and any other businesses to purchase Honeywell cameras, like the 30 Series line, that are designed for use as part of video systems which comply with NDAA 2019, Section 889. The 30 Series is the first release in this program.
We will expand these ranges over the next 12 months to make sure these customers can access the video products they need from Honeywell. We constantly assess our products to ensure that they meet the security needs of our customers for today and tomorrow.
