Speco Technologies President Todd Keller has been busy of late navigating the independently-owned company through not just pandemic headwinds but also new portfolio additions as he maneuvers to seize evolving market opportunities in video surveillance, access control and more.
During an extended conversation with SSI (see video and audio links below), Keller explains why he is optimistic about overall economic recovery and specifically within the security industry.
“I think very positively about the driving forces affecting the opportunities for our industry as a whole. There is such a need for awareness campaigns and surveillance equipment in each and every environment,” he says.
Among the varied topics discussed during the podcast, Keller also touches on top challenges faced by security dealers and systems integrators — not the least of which, cybersecurity. Whereas proactively securing networks used to be an afterthought for most all industry stakeholders, Keller says cybersecurity has become a “top priority” for larger commercial installation companies.
Not so much for some smaller installing security contractors.
“Dropping down to the smaller dealer, it is not a priority whatsoever,” he says. “We have to navigate through this entanglement of challenges that exists with each of these different customer segments. And it’s our responsibility to make sure we provide a product that is as safe and secure as possible, and taking into consideration that when you find one [network vulnerability], they [hackers] find another. So it’s an evolution and a constant battle that we fight on a regular basis.”
