In this week’s Top Surveillance Videos…
One of my favorite guilty pleasure movies is Gone in 60 Seconds … the Nicolas Cage version. I’m a huge Nic Cage fan, but that’s a discussion for another time.
If you aren’t familiar with the film — to sum it up succinctly — it’s a car heist movie where Cage needs to steal 50 cars within 72 hours in order to save his brother. This week’s featured video reminded me of the movie, albeit one big difference.
Surveillance video from a used car dealership in Buffalo shows a caravan of cars pull up and drop off drivers to break into the shop and steal vehicles.
While Cage assembled a ragtag crew of seasoned car thieves for his heist, the drivers in the surveillance footage appear to be teens, some that don’t even look old enough to legally drive.
Surveillance video shows the suspects crawl under a bay door, grab the keys and then run around the lot pressing the fobs to find the vehicles. They would end up making off with eight cars and trucks.
Also this week…
Businesses have seen a rise in ATM thefts during the pandemic, which isn’t surprising considering how empty cities now are at night.
New York City has especially seen an increase in these thefts. In one instance, thieves hook a machine up to a van and drive off, not only pulling the machine out, but also causing the entire storefront to collapse.
Make sure to check out the rest of this week’s top surveillance videos, which include a shootout at a block party, a van being swallowed by a sinkhole and more.
